Abstract
Women’s economic activity is not considered necessary in Iranian culture, because the man is the breadwinner of the family. On the other hand, women’s capabilities are not restricted to domestic activities they can work in the community and employment is of social and psychological importance for them, regardless of financial independence. In addition, achieving sustainable development requires the participation of all people. This study aims to identify barriers and limitations of women’s employment in rural areas of Iran using a qualitative method of research synthesis or meta-combination. The unit of analysis in this research is articles that have been published in reputable journals approved by the Ministry of Science. In this regard, 30 articles were identified, and finally, after a closer examination. Therefore 30 articles were identified, and eventually by precise investigation 24 articles were purposefully coded for re-reading and their indicators and concepts were selected. Roberts’s six-stage model of research synthesis was used to analyze the findings. The results show that concerning barriers and restrictions on women’s employment in rural areas of Iran, 5 fundamental categories, 16 categories, and 67 concepts were identified and categorized. The results of this study can provide a comprehensive understanding of the barriers and limitations of rural women’s employment in Iran
